How to Clear Cache on Firestick
Without Losing TiviMate Data

Clear Firestick cache safely without deleting your TiviMate playlists, credentials, or settings. Follow this step-by-step guide — and read the critical warning about "Clear Data" before you start.

⚠ CRITICAL WARNING: NEVER Click "Clear Data"

When clearing the cache in TiviMate or any IPTV app on your Firestick, you will see two options: Clear Cache and Clear Data. Always choose Clear Cache. Clicking Clear Data will permanently erase all your TiviMate settings, playlists, login credentials, EPG sources, and favorites. You would need to reconfigure everything from scratch.

How to Clear Firestick Cache

Follow these 5 simple steps to free up storage and improve performance — without losing your TiviMate setup.

1

Go to Firestick Settings

From the Firestick home screen, navigate to Settings (gear icon in the top menu). Then select ApplicationsManage Installed Applications. This opens the list of every app installed on your Firestick.

Path: Settings → Applications → Manage Installed Applications

2

Select TiviMate (or Your IPTV App)

Scroll through the list and select TiviMate. If you use another IPTV app (e.g., IPTV Smarters, XCIPTV, OTT Navigator), select that app instead. The process is identical for all apps.

Tip: Apps are listed alphabetically for easy finding.

3

Click "Clear Cache" — NOT "Clear Data"

This is the most important step. You'll see both Clear Cache and Clear Data buttons. Click Clear Cache only. The cache stores temporary files that can slow down the app — clearing it is safe. Clear Data erases everything.

✓ Cache cleared = temporary junk removed | ✗ Data cleared = all settings lost

4

Repeat for Other Streaming Apps

For best performance, clear the cache on other streaming apps as well: Netflix, YouTube, Prime Video, Hulu, Disney+, and any other apps you use regularly. Go back to Manage Installed Applications and repeat the process for each app.

5

Restart Your Firestick

After clearing the cache, restart your Firestick to apply the changes and free up system memory. The quickest way: hold the Select (center button) + Play/Pause buttons simultaneously for about 5 seconds. Your Firestick will restart immediately.

Alternative: Settings → My Fire TV → Restart

Cache Clearing Best Practices

How Often Should You Clear Cache?

For heavy users who stream 4+ hours daily, clear the cache every week. For moderate users, once every 2–4 weeks is sufficient. If you notice buffering, lag, or apps crashing, that's a sign the cache is full and needs clearing.

Cache vs. Data — What's the Difference?

Cache is temporary data (thumbnails, EPG images, buffered video) that apps store to load faster. Clearing it is safe and can fix issues. Data is your personal configuration — login credentials, playlists, app settings, favorites, and preferences. Clearing data resets the app to factory defaults. Never clear TiviMate data unless you want to set it up again from scratch.

Clear EPG Cache in TiviMate Separately

TiviMate has its own EPG cache that can sometimes get stuck or show outdated program listings. To clear it without affecting your channels or settings: open TiviMate → Settings (gear icon) → EPGClear EPG Cache. This forces TiviMate to refresh the program guide with fresh data.

Free Up Space Without Deleting Apps

Firesticks have limited storage (typically 8GB). If you're running low on space, clearing app caches can free up 500MB–2GB or more. Go to Settings → My Fire TV → About → Storage to check your available space before and after clearing cache.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will clearing cache delete my TiviMate playlists? +
No. Clearing the cache only removes temporary files like thumbnails, EPG images, and buffered data. Your playlists, login credentials, EPG sources, and settings will remain intact. Only "Clear Data" erases those.
What happens if I accidentally click "Clear Data" on TiviMate? +
Unfortunately, Clear Data resets TiviMate to factory defaults. You'll lose all playlists, EPG sources, login credentials, and settings. You'll need to set up TiviMate again from scratch. There is no undo. Always double-check before tapping.
How often should I clear cache on my Firestick? +
Heavy users who stream 4+ hours daily should clear cache weekly. Moderate users can do it every 2–4 weeks. If apps start buffering, crashing, or running slow, it's time to clear the cache.
Will clearing cache improve Firestick performance? +
Yes. A bloated cache takes up storage and can cause apps to lag, buffer, or crash. Clearing it frees up storage (often 500MB–2GB) and helps apps run smoother. For the best results, clear cache on all your streaming apps, not just TiviMate.
Is there a way to backup TiviMate before clearing cache? +
TiviMate doesn't have a built-in backup feature for the free version, but the premium version lets you backup and restore settings. The safest approach: note down your playlist URLs and EPG sources somewhere safe. That way, even if something goes wrong, you can quickly reconfigure.
Does clearing cache on Firestick affect my IPTV subscription? +
Not at all. Your IPTV subscription is tied to your account on the provider's server, not to the cache on your Firestick. Clearing cache has no effect on your subscription status, active connections, or ability to log in.
